Art Blakey(1919- )
, or Abdullah Ibn Buhaina, has two claims to
jazz immortality: as one of the most incindiary drummers in history,
the man who reawakened interest in the most basic African sources of
Jazz percussion; and the leader of the Jazz Messengers, a band that, at
its inception in 1954, ushered in
the hard-bop era.
Has recorded with such prominent musicians as Horace Silver, Charlie
Parker, Miles Davis, and Clifford Brown.
Contemporary with other great drummers such as Max Roach, Buddy Rich,
and Elvin Jones. Blakey was a loud and domineering drummer who would
listen to the song and respond to soloists.
