maufrais

where everything is as it seems

maufrais is a lot of things, it's a pseudonymity of mine, and it's also a place where I like to shout out odds and ends that are on my mind, as well as a space in which to place projects that I'm working on, so here's where to check later on if you want to see what is or isn't happening.

Well, a lot of you out there have asked me- what is maufrais? Fair question, and here's the best answer I got. Donald Blais, a friend in kind, emailed that that a Lexis-Nexis search revealed MAUFRAIS to be a French family name with ties to Austin, TX. His best guess is that these folks are probably all related descendants of a 19th century French immigrant to central Texas, and maybe it was that ancestor who started a construction company and named it MAUFRAIS, which is far as I know is now defunct. If you walk around Austin, you will see the word MAUFRAIS stamped in the sidewalk, along with some other names as well (E. DICKEY, J. BRUEGGEMANN, F.M. PAULS, PL WOODWARD, FUHRMAN, JULIUS E JOHNSON), so I still plan try to find out more, which means research, which means it'll be awhile before I get to it. But never fear, I will eventually.

Now, as to why I use the word maufrais? Well, I like it. nuf ced.
