MacKinnon, Richard (forthcoming) Kevin Mitnick's Body. A large section of "Punishing the Persona" discusses the governmental and media representation of Kevin Mitnick as nearly supernatural in his abilities to wield technology. In my view, it is a classic example of scapegoating in the service of even less scrupulous (Mitnick is no angel) careerists. Unfortunately, the discussion was not included in Virtual Culture because it was too tangential to my main argument. I admit this. As a result, I'm going to spin it off as a separate piece. Here's a May 10, 1999 addition to the story.
