ZAPATISTA NET OF AUTONOMY AND LIBERATION
Introduction

The Zapnet Collective is a critical art ensemble performing the electronic disturbance. Its rhisomes are interwoven between activist, academic, and alternative media domains. Formed of media and academic specialists interested in the free and lively transformation of information to knowledge, it transverses the striated arena of cyberspace, mediaspace, community space, and academic space.

Zapnet History

The Zapnet Collective was born as a small project in the ACTlab (Advanced Communication Technologies Lab) at the University of Texas at Austin, rising up as a Temporary Autonomous Zone on Feb 9, 1995. The purpose of the Collective is to create interactive digital media in solidarity with the Zapatista Demands of Liberty, Justice, and Democracy!

The Zapnet Collective hosts a world wide web site and is currently in production of a multimedia CD-ROM, "The Revolution Will Be Digitized", with funding from a Rockefeller Intercultural Fellowship. A demo of this CD-ROM received a "Noteworthy" award from the 1995 New Visions New Voices Competition. We are currently making arrangements for the distribution of the CD-ROM, slated to be finished in July 1996.
